It is a well-documented fact that singing in a choir has many positive benefits on health and well-being. After singing with other people for two hours, you can go home feeling happy and relaxed, with a satisfying sense of achievement.
You do not need to be able to read music just come along and meet us, we enjoy making music together. If you're shy bring your wife or a friend, the more the merrier.
Rotherham u3a choir, aptly named “Alive and Singing” was founded in 2013. The group meets
between 10 am and 12 pm each Wednesday at St James’ Church Hall, Cambridge Street,
Clifton. It’s a lively, friendly group with a large and varied songbook, ranging from pop and
rock classics, past and present, songs from musicals and films to church and classical music,
all sung in four-part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor and bass)

We sing in four-part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and we practise towards doing two concerts, one in the summer and one at Christmas. Any money generated from these concerts is donated to local charities.
If you would like to join the Choir “Alive and Singing” then you do not need an audition, nor is it essential that you can read music. Just come along and enjoy the positive experience as well as having fun along the way.
Celebrations in Clifton Park
"As part of the celebrations to acknowledge the work of Age Concern (UK), the Rotherham Branch invited user groups to attend an afternoon tea party held in the Garden Room, Clifton Park on 2nd July.
The u3a choir was invited to entertain, and were greatly thanked by the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Rukhsana Ismail."

Spring Tea Concert - Friday 25th April 2025
Many thanks to all who came to the U3a afternoon tea concert. It was a complete sell out! The choir was in good voice and there were many belly laughs provided by our guest host, Wayne Ashton. Everyone enjoyed the singing and the wonderful feast of sandwiches, tea and cakes. So many smiling faces! - Jan Armitage

Ru3a Choir (Alive and Singing) Christmas Concert 2024

This event took place on 7th December 2024 at Wickersley Methodist Church. The Concert is an annual event, to support The Memory Café. The concert was well attended with the audience filling the hall; around 80 people attended including members and non-members, with a special guest appearance from the Mayor of Rotherham, Sheila Cowen.

The choir sang 15 songs and carols at the concert and 2 readings from the Yorkshire Bible:
| All Bells in Paradise | The Very Best Time of Year | O Little Town of Bethlehem |
| Merry Christmas Mozart | Silent Night | It's the Most wonderful Time of the Year |
| Away in a Manger | Mary did You Know | The Sparrows Carol |
| Deep Silence | Jesus Child | O Come All Ye Faithful |
| Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas | O Men From the Fields | Holiday Sing-a-long |
At the end of the concert refreshments were provided by choir members – tea/coffee and cakes. The group presented a bouquet of flowers to the accompanist, Catherine and a small gift to the Musical Director, Graham.
Thank you to Julie Thorp, Susan Green and others for organising this event.
