Learning at u3a: Where Everyone's Both Student and Teacher
At u3a, we believe learning should be fun, simple as that. Our members get together to explore whatever interests them - from art to zoology and everything in between. The best part? There's no pressure. No exams, no certificates, just pure enjoyment of learning something new.
What makes u3a special is that everyone's equal. Today you might be teaching Spanish, tomorrow you're learning watercolors. It's all about sharing what you know and discovering what you don't.
Our members are what make u3a tick. Yes, we need some structure to keep things running smoothly - the national organisation and Charity Commission require that. But don't let the formal-sounding roles scare you off. Running u3a is actually pretty straightforward.
While we have trustees who oversee different areas, they're not working alone. Each role has a support team sharing the load, making everything more manageable. Never done anything like this before?
Don't worry - no experience is needed, we'll show you the ropes.
Role Descriptions - These are the main roles but each role is also looking for deputies and assistants. Every little helps, tailor your support to suit your availability.
It is essential to find candidates for the roles in RED and remember that all roles can be held by more than one person.
Want to Join the Team?
Here's the thing about getting involved at u3a; you don't need an impressive resume. You can jump in at whatever level feels right.
- Join the board as a trustee
- Try being a deputy if you want to test the waters
- Help out informally as part of a support team
- Lead an interest group about something you love (and no, you don't need to be an expert!); maybe you could dip your toe in the water as a deputy.
Remember enthusiasm beats expertise every time. If you're curious about a subject and enjoy sharing with others, you're already qualified to lead a group. It's that simple.
You don't have to do the whole job on your own, share the workload!
